Toyota Safety Package Earns Top Technology Award from New England Motor Press Association

Yesterday, Toyota issued a press release announcing that its safety package, known as Toyota Safety Sense (TSS-P), recently earned the Yankee Cup Technology award from the New England Motor Press Association. The advanced driver-assist technology helps prevent collisions, and will be available on almost every Toyota trim level in the United States as part of the company's promise to offer advanced safety technology to the masses.

Toyota Safety Sense detects obstacles using an in-vehicle camera and front grill mounted millimeter-wave radar, and automatically applies the brakes to avoid collisions. Four key features of the package are Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection, Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist, Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, and Automatic High Beams.

Recipients of the NEMPA Yankee Cup Award are chosen with input from MIT faculty. The award highlights the best feature or system that "significantly enhances the motoring experience, whether by making driving safer, more cost-efficient or simply more enjoyable.” The NEMPA presented this year's award during its 6th annual conference and banquet at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's Media Lab in Cambridge.
