What Toyota Hybrid Vehicles are For Sale in the Brunswick Area?

At DCH Brunswick Toyota we have hybrid versions of three of Toyota's most popular models. The Avalon Hybrid is a full-size luxury sedan with a powerful and efficient powertrain that not only produces 200 horsepower, it achieves an EPA-estimated 40 mpg combined fuel economy rating, which is very impressive given its size. The Camry Hybrid is a roomy midsize sedan that Edmunds.com calls "one of the best midsize hybrid sedans you can buy." Also producing 200 horsepower and achieving 40 mpg combined, the Camry is sportier than most hybrids, accelerating from zero to 60 mph in 7.7 seconds. Finally, the RAV4 Hyrbrid delivers excellent fuel economy (33 mpg combined) in an otherwise thirsty segment.

And, of course, we have the legendary Toyota Prius. The first and most famous mass-produced hybrid vehicle in the world, the Prius achieves an amazing combined EPA-estimated fuel economy rating of 52 mpg.

How Do Hybrid Vehicles Work?

Toyota's hybrid models are motivated by Toyota's Hybrid Synergy Drive (HSD) technology. The drivetrain consists of an electric motor and a gasoline engine, both of which can power the vehicle independently or together. One of the benefits of the system is that the gasoline engine continuously charges the electric motor so it doesn't need to be manually recharged.

At lower speeds, the electric motor alone powers the vehicle, using zero gasoline and producing zero emissions. This also has the benefit of a quieter drive due to lack of engine noise. At higher speeds, or when accelerating, the gasoline engine turns on, delivering more power as needed. With this hybrid powertrain, braking actually generates power which is stored in the motor's battery.

In short, Toyotas Hybrid Synergy Drive technology maximizes efficiency by analyzing the driving situation, and switching between electric power, gasoline power, or a combination of both.
